Ocras an Domhain

07/09/2026-09/09/2026

Teachers Club

Synopsis

playposter copy.jpg

The collective’s first production is Ocras an Domhain. It is about the landscape of Ireland and its mythology. It centres on the lines between ‘This World’, and ‘The Otherworld’. While this is the collective’s debut, our members have produced prior work in theatre and fine art. Incorporating Gaeilge is an important part of our work; our latest project, however, is in English.

The play is a surreal dark comedy about rights to land ownership in contemporary Ireland. The story is told through political satire, Irish folklore, and puppetry. Grounded in living, breathing Irish mythology, old stories become a lens to understanding conflicting socio-political narratives.

It is a play about agency, control, fragility, and memory. That is, that warped experience of memory which folds over time, into tales and stories, into ghosts in the dark and recollections that come at night, in bewitched, strange dreams.

Brought to you by

Established in May 2025, Pobal na bPuipéad is a multi-disciplinary art-theatre group. We are a collective of young artists, working across the arts and entertainment sector. From fine art, to theatre, to events organising,

There is a reviving interest in Irish traditions and folklore, as Ireland reconnects with pre-colonial stories, re-contextualising them for the modern day. This passion for Irish stories gives an impetus to our team and the production as a whole, as we reckon with contemporary Ireland and the ongoing, active process of decolonisation.

We are interested in a theatre that is new, vital, and responds to the current lived experience of Irish people; that is, people living in Ireland of all nationalities and walks of life. Stories which don’t mythologise its past and landscape, but which interact dynamically with the changing face of Irish identity.

Our core ethos of egalitarianism forms the backbone of our work and the identity we hope to build: an Irish identity which is compassionate, collectivist, and in solidarity with other communities’ struggles.

Crowdfunder

We have just launched a crowdfunder on GoFundMe to fund final expenses which we cannot cover on our own: that is, expensive finishing touches of stage materials, and venue hire. This entire production is a love letter to art and design in Ireland, every discipline within the troupe. It has given our artists, designers, and technicians free reign to explore and push their crafts. If you’d like to join us in this exploration and support new art, please consider donating!

Donations of €5 entitle you to 20% discount promo code on tickets. If you wish to avail of this discount, either make sure you have a GoFundMe account before donating, or take a screenshot with the confirmation of your donation and send it to puppets.tickets@gmail.com.

FAQ

Accessibility

Venue is wheelchair accessible through an alternative entrance at the rear of the building. We apologise for any inconvenience; the venue is a restored Georgian structure so not fully accommodating. Please email puppets.tickets@gmail.com with the subject line “Accessibility query” and the date you’ve booked your ticket in the subject line. We’ll make sure your experience is as smooth as possible!

What age is this suitable for?

We have a content rating of 18+ in place. The satire features substance abuse, foul language, and sexist remarks, as our leading lady deals with slimy businessmen. Guardians use discretion for teenagers interested in seeing; none of the content is particularly graphic, but the themes are mature.

How do I purchase a concession ticket?

Simply select the 'Concession' option when secureing your tickets online. Valid identification may be requested at the venue.

How do I avail of my donor discount on tickets?

If you have a GoFundMe account, we will forward you a promo code via GoFundMe’s system. You can also send confirmation of your donation to puppets.tickets@gmail.com, where we will then forward you a promo code.
